Medicaid work requirements start by January 1, 2027. Will AI explain them correctly?

Under federal law (H.R. 1), states must implement community engagement requirements and more frequent renewals for many expansion adults. Residents will ask AI first. Prolifico and Adobe Brand Visibility help your agency be the accurate answer.

What is changing

The rules your residents will search for.

Summary of publicly reported federal requirements. Each state's implementation details, start date and exemptions vary, and agencies should rely on their own policy guidance.

80 hours a month

Many Medicaid expansion adults must show at least 80 hours a month of work, job training, school, community service or a combination, or meet an income test.

Renewals every six months

For the same group, eligibility is redetermined every six months instead of annually, doubling the moments when coverage can be lost.

Exemptions

Certain groups, such as pregnant women, parents or caregivers of a dependent child, and some people with disabilities, are exempt. Residents need to find out if they are.

States are already racing to raise awareness

Arizona’s Medicaid agency (AHCCCS) launched KeepMyAHCCCS.com on September 8, 2026 for the nearly 417,000 members who could be affected. Awareness is the central challenge, and search, increasingly AI, is where people will land first.

What residents will ask

Questions your agency should be the answer to.

  • “Do I have to work to keep my Medicaid?”
  • “How many hours do I need to work for Medicaid?”
  • “Am I exempt from the Medicaid work requirement?”
  • “How do I report my hours to Medicaid?”
  • “When do the new Medicaid rules start in my state?”
  • “Why did my Medicaid renewal change to every six months?”
  • “What counts as community service for Medicaid?”
The risk

If AI gets it wrong, people lose coverage.

Outdated pages, third-party summaries and social posts can all outrank an agency's own guidance. Wrong answers about deadlines, exemptions and how to report hours mean avoidable denials and calls.

Program outcomes

Five outcomes AI visibility helps you move.

AI visibility is a leading indicator. Pair it with the program KPIs your leadership already tracks.

Raise awareness

Affected residents know the changes exist, whether they apply, and where the official answer is. Track citations on “what is changing” and “does this affect me” prompts.

Prevent avoidable coverage loss

Wrong or missing answers about deadlines, documents, exemptions and notices cause missed steps. Track accuracy and time to fix.

Maintain coverage

Renewal and reporting prompts are ongoing. Track citations and accuracy on renewal, reporting and exemption prompts, including non-English.

Increase new enrollment

New applicants search before they apply. Track presence on “how to apply” and eligibility prompts.

Reduce misinformation and staff burden

Fewer confused residents means fewer repeat calls. Track inaccurate answers found and corrected.

What agencies publish

Content that AI can find, trust and cite.

Plain-language explainers

Who is affected, what counts, how to report hours, and when deadlines apply, in multiple languages.

Exemption guidance

A clear way for residents to find out whether they are exempt and how to document it.

Accessible by design
